A Premier Attraction for a Premier Port
Peterhead
The town of Peterhead has been bound up with the sea for generations. Its seamen knew not only the waters of the North Sea but, in times gone by, the bergs and iceflows of far northern waters. Beyond the Arctic Circle, they went whaling and brought prosperity to the community on their return.
Today, though whales have not been hunted from Peterhead for a hundred years or more, the town is the largest white fish landing port in Europe and many of the town still owe their livelihood to the hunters of the sea. In addition, Peterhead's harbour of refuge has enabled the town to play its part in the North Sea oil industry.
Peterhead Maritime Heritage tells the story of all these seafolk, past and present.
