ChinnerZinc web site design agency, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Zincweb Internet. Why this picture? So that you'll ask "why this picture?" Is it a handstand upside down, or someone jumping to reach higher? You decide. But at least you'll remember it.

However, the company notes that there has been "numerous problems with Windows Update and St. Bernard's Update Expert - both of which showed that MS patch was installed when it wasn't". It is expecting more trouble ahead.

CURE: Don't panic! It's easy enough to remove! Our advice, as always, is to ensure you have Internet Firewall enabled (Microsoft help here); the latest AV suite (for a MSBlaster removal tool, which is a free download, go to the Symantec web site); and then apply the latest patches from the MS Web Site. Getting a Cryptographic Service Error when trying to install the patch? Click here (thanks Marc). We accept no responsibility for any of these external links. If you can't do any of this because your PC keeps shutting down, try this:

If you are presented with the 60-second countdown, Click on Start, then Run, and enter 'shutdown /a' (without single quotes) in the box that appears, then press OK. This may abort the shutdown, allowing you to grab the relevant patch; OR

Make sure you are not connected to the internet! Simultaneously, press the keys Ctrl/Alt/Delete on your keyboard. This will open the Task Manager. Make sure the processes tab is selected. Look for msblast.exe (and/or teekids.exe - a new variant) in the left column; if it is running, highlight it with your mouse (left click) and then click the button that says 'end process' (normally bottom right). Close the Task Manager. Finally, do a file search for 'msblast.exe' on your computer and delete the file. Before reconnecting to the Internet, ensure that you have Internet Firewall selected or you risk reinfecting your machine. If it still bombs out on you, restart your machine and try again.
